Jye Gray: 2026 Year in Review

Jye Gray continued to establish himself as one of South Sydney’s most exciting young talents in 2026, showcasing his electric speed, footwork and attacking creativity throughout the campaign. Across 16 NRL appearances, including 12 starts at fullback, Gray scored five tries, provided six try assists and accumulated an impressive 2,280 running metres, finishing the season with a memorable try in the Rabbitohs’ Elimination Final.

Gray wasted little time making his mark in 2026, producing a lively performance against the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium in round one. The young fullback crossed for a try, ran for 162 metres and set up another four-pointer as South Sydney opened the season with an impressive 40-30 victory.

His ability to inject himself into the attacking line and create opportunities for his teammates remained a feature of his game. Returning to the side in round 10 against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, Gray produced 226 running metres and a try assist in the Rabbitohs’ 36-12 victory.

He continued to impress against the Brisbane Broncos in round 15, running for 188 metres, breaking the line and setting up another try as South Sydney recorded a dominant 48-6 win.

Gray also demonstrated his versatility throughout the campaign, making an impact from the interchange when called upon. Against the Newcastle Knights in round 19, he came off the bench to score a try, once again showcasing his ability to create something out of nothing.

One of his standout performances came during Indigenous Round against the Parramatta Eels at Allianz Stadium in round 23. Playing on the wing, Gray was outstanding in the Rabbitohs’ 28-24 victory, running for a season-high 236 metres, scoring a try and producing three line breaks in a brilliant attacking display.

Across the season, Gray averaged an impressive 142 running metres per game, highlighting his ability to consistently generate momentum with the ball in hand. His attacking influence extended beyond his five tries and six try assists, finishing with 10 line breaks, 61 tackle breaks and three forced drop-outs.

Whether sweeping around the back of attacking plays, using his footwork to beat defenders or supporting his teammates through the middle, Gray continued to provide a genuine attacking threat whenever he was on the field.

With another season of valuable experience behind him, Gray heads into 2027 as an exciting part of South Sydney’s future. His versatility, attacking instincts and ability to produce moments of individual brilliance make him one of the Rabbitohs’ most promising young players.
