The South Sydney Rabbitohs Junior Pathways teams had a mixed weekend across Round six, with all four sides hosting the Parramatta Eels at Redfern Oval. The SG Ball Cup side delivered the highlight of the round with a commanding victory, while the Harold Matthews Cup team also secured a gritty win in a tight contest. The Tarsha Gale Cup and Lisa Fiaola Cup sides faced tougher outings against strong Eels opposition, but there were still plenty of positives to take from the weekend's action at the spiritual home of the Club.
SG Ball Cup
The SG Ball Cup side put together their most complete performance of the season, running in eight tries in a comprehensive victory over the Eels at Redfern Oval. Taj Alvarez was the name on everyone's lips, crossing for a hat-trick to cause problems for the Parramatta defence all afternoon. Dwayne Lyons, Dayne Jennings, Isaac Fotu-Moala, Phillip Lavakeiaho and Lochlin Moses all found their way to the tryline as the Rabbitohs built an imposing scoreline. Jennings was sharp with the boot as well, slotting six conversions from eight attempts to round out a polished individual display.
South Sydney Rabbitohs 44 (Taj Alvarez three tries, Dwayne Lyons, Dayne Jennings, Isaac Fotu-Moala, Phillip Lavakeiaho, Lochlin Moses tries; Dayne Jennings six goals) defeated Eels 10 at Redfern Oval.
Harold Matthews Cup
The Harold Matthews Cup side showed plenty of resolve to claim a three-point victory over the Eels in what was a tightly contested affair at Redfern Oval. Benjamin Wright opened the scoring for the Red and Green before Payton Tarau crossed and added a conversion to extend the lead. Mehmet Varol also found the tryline as South Sydney built enough of a buffer to hold off a determined Parramatta outfit. With just three points separating the sides at full time, it was a contest that required effort and composure from the young Rabbitohs right through to the final whistle.
South Sydney Rabbitohs 14 (Benjamin Wright, Payton Tarau, Mehmet Varol tries; Payton Tarau one goal) defeated Eels 11 at Redfern Oval.
Tarsha Gale Cup
It was a difficult afternoon for the Tarsha Gale Cup side, who went down to a strong Eels outfit at Redfern Oval. Parramatta proved too strong on the day, controlling possession and field position throughout the contest. While the scoreline was a tough one to take, the young Rabbitohs will look to regroup ahead of next week and use the experience as motivation to improve.
Eels 62 defeated South Sydney Rabbitohs 0 at Redfern Oval.
Lisa Fiaola Cup
The Lisa Fiaola Cup side came agonisingly close to securing a victory, falling just two points short against the Eels at Redfern Oval. Amelia Gil, Bronte McKee, Taylor Horne and Lexus Ogle all crossed for tries as the Rabbitohs matched Parramatta for much of the contest. McKee added a conversion to keep the Cardinal and Myrtle in the fight. Despite the narrow loss, there were plenty of encouraging signs from the group, who showed they can compete with the best and will take confidence from the performance heading into the coming rounds.
Eels 22 defeated South Sydney Rabbitohs 20 (Amelia Gil, Bronte McKee, Taylor Horne, Lexus Ogle tries; Bronte McKee one goal) at Redfern Oval.
