Souths Cares are celebrating the success of Issaac Hosking–Morante, a participant in the Barranggirra Program who has shown great resilience in his journey to improve his life and gain employment.

Originally from Lismore, Issaac faced some significant challenges last year after moving to Sydney and becoming homeless with no formal qualifications, past work experience or employment prospects. Issaac secured short term accommodation in a Youth Refuge based in Mount Druitt and began the slow process of getting his life together one step at a time.

Whilst staying in the Youth Refuge, Issaac saw an advertisement for a Traffic Control Pre-Employment Course being facilitated by Licenses 4 Work and the Barranggirra Program. Issaac believed this was his best opportunity to secure his first job.

With intensive support from the Barranggirra Program, Issaac successfully passed the course with his Traffic Control and White Card tickets and was immediately offered casual employment with Evolution Traffic Management.

For the past three months, Issaac has been catching public transport to work and staying focused on achieving his goals of securing stable and long-term accommodation and increasing his work hours.

Isaac’s hard work and commitment has paid off, with Issaac being notified last week he has been successful in securing his own apartment in Liverpool, which will improve his access to public transport and bring him within closer proximity to his employer.

Issaac Hosking–Morante and Corey Kelly

Corey Kelly, Employment and Training Mentor explained he was proud of Issaac’s achievements.

“I’ve enjoyed working alongside Issaac throughout his journey as he accomplishes his goals. From being homeless five months ago and having never worked, to being employed with his own place are both huge achievements and I’m excited to see Issaac continue to kick his goals” Corey said.

Issaac stated the support of Souths Cares Barranggirra program had been vital in helping him overcome challenges.

“Working with Souths Cares has really helped me. Last year I was struggling to see a positive future, but with Corey’s support I’ve been able to get a job and now my own place”, Issaac said.

Issaac will continue to be supported by the Barranggirra Program as he works on other goals which include gaining his Driver’s License and saving money to purchase his first car.

The Barranggirra Program is proudly supported by Training Services NSW.
