Bud Sullivan: 2026 Year in Review

Bud Sullivan stepped up when South Sydney needed him in 2026, finishing the season as the Rabbitohs’ starting halfback after showcasing his versatility and attacking ability throughout the campaign. Across 15 NRL appearances, Sullivan contributed both from the interchange and in the halves, before taking control of the number seven jersey for the final five matches of the season, including his first NRL Finals appearance.

Sullivan reached an important career milestone early in the campaign, celebrating his 50th NRL appearance against the Sydney Roosters in round two. Starting at halfback, he continued to build on his first-grade experience while providing another creative option in South Sydney’s spine.

His ability to make an impact from the interchange was also on display, crossing for tries against the Dolphins in round one and the Brisbane Broncos in round 15. Against the Broncos, Sullivan showed his attacking instincts by breaking the line, while he also started at five-eighth against the Newcastle Knights in round 19.

As the season progressed, Sullivan earned an extended opportunity in the halves and made the most of his time in the number seven jersey. His composure and strong running game became increasingly important as the Rabbitohs pushed towards the Finals.

One of his standout performances came in the final round of the regular season against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium. Playing the full 80 minutes at halfback, Sullivan crossed for his first try since returning to the starting side, ran for 110 metres and broke the line as South Sydney celebrated an emphatic 50-20 victory over the Roosters.

The performance highlighted Sullivan’s ability to combine his organisational responsibilities with his natural attacking style, providing another dimension to the Rabbitohs’ play.

Across the 2026 campaign, Sullivan finished with three tries, three try assists, two line-break assists and three line breaks. He also recorded 13 tackle breaks, 568 running metres and 1,724 kicking metres, while kicking eight goals.

Having demonstrated his ability to guide the side from halfback while also providing energy and creativity from the interchange, Sullivan heads into 2027 with another season of experience in the Red and Green. His versatility and growing confidence as a playmaker will continue to provide South Sydney with valuable options across the spine.
