South Cares Participation in DCJ NAIDOC Oztag
On Wednesday 8 July, the Souths Cares team attended the DCJ NAIDOC Oztag Event, bringing together community organisations, youth workers, mentors, and support services from across the region to celebrate NAIDOC Week through sport, teamwork, collaboration, and community connection.
The event brought together clients and local community organisations in a friendly Oztag competition, providing an opportunity to build positive relationships, celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and promote inclusion, respect, and healthy lifestyles.

Throughout the day, Our South Cares participants demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship, resilience, and teamwork both on and off the field. Our participants and staff were lucky enough to progress to the semi’s which they fought so well but unfortunately were defeated by Tribal Warriors. They embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and encouraged one another, creating a positive and supportive atmosphere.
Beyond the games, the event highlighted the importance of community partnerships and the spirit of NAIDOC Week by fostering meaningful connections between young people and local organisations. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to engage with community members, learn from one another, and celebrate the rich cultures, histories, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
