Bronson Garlick joined South Sydney Rabbitohs staff and Reggie Rabbit in helping the Ronald McDonald House Sydney raise vital funds during its Gift a Night appeal this week.
Over the past two days, the group spent time at the Ronald McDonald House Sydney in Randwick, where they got to work on the phones, encouraging the community to dig deep. The 48-hour fundraising appeal is one of Ronald McDonald House Sydney’s biggest fundraising campaigns of the year, with donations doubled to help keep families together while their seriously ill or injured children receive life-saving medical treatment.
The visit was also a wonderful opportunity for Bronson and Reggie Rabbit to spend time with the families currently staying at the House. Their presence brought plenty of smiles and helped brighten the day for families going through what can be an incredibly challenging and uncertain time.
“Supporting our community is something we believe is stronger when we do it together. Souths Cares and the Rabbitohs share a commitment to helping young people and their families thrive, so supporting Ronald McDonald House Sydney’s Gift a Night appeal is a natural fit for us. We know how important it is for families to have support around them during challenging times, and we’re proud to play our part in helping keep families together when they need it most.” - Erin Geddes, Health and Wellbeing Programs Manager, Souths Cares.
For the families staying at Ronald McDonald House Sydney, the House provides much more than a place to stay. Some families have travelled hundreds of kilometres for their child’s treatment, while others may be away from home for months.
Ronald McDonald House provides families with a home away from home, allowing parents and siblings to stay close to their child during hospital treatment. Families receive accommodation, meals, practical support and a welcoming community, helping ease the financial and emotional pressure of having a sick child.
“Having the support of South Sydney Football Club and the South’s Cares team is paramount to the success of campaigns such as Gift-A-Night. The staff, Bronson and of course Reggie brought so much warmth and energy into the house and helped us raise much needed funds. We value our strong partnership with the club and are grateful for the support!” Todd Liubinskas - Strategic Partnerships Manager, Ronald McDonald House Sydney.
The goal of Gift a Night is simple: raise as much as possible so more families can stay together when they need each other most. Currently the Gift-A-Night appeal has raised $209 000! Every donation made during the appeal is doubled, helping provide more nights of accommodation, support and care for families facing incredibly difficult circumstances.
