Miller Technology High School Wins Liverpool Opportunity Hub Oz Tag Gala Day

Ten local schools came together on Friday, 12 July, for the Liverpool Opportunity Hub’s annual Oz Tag Gala Day at Hillier Oval.

The event brought together students from Ashcroft High School, Busby Public School, Holsworthy High School, Hoxton Park High School, James Busby High School, Lawrence Hargrave School, Liverpool Boys High School, Lurnea High School, Miller Technology High School, and St Anthony’s of Padua Catholic School. Now in its fourth year, the Oz Tag Gala Day attracted more than 130 students, staff, and community members, with nine teams competing for the title.

The competition featured four rounds of fast-paced Oz Tag, with the top four high school teams progressing to the semi-finals. In the first semi-final, Ashcroft High School defeated Lawrence Hargrave School in a thrilling golden-point finish. The second semi-final saw Miller Technology High School overcome Holsworthy High School to secure their place in the Grand Final.

Mikayla Hubbard

"I really enjoyed being part of the LOH Oz tag Gala Day. It was great to meet students from other schools, play alongside my friends, and challenge myself in a fun and supportive environment. Everyone encouraged each other, and it was one of the best sporting events I've been involved in."

The Grand Final between Ashcroft High School and Miller Technology High School was a closely contested match that showcased the strength, determination, and sportsmanship of both teams. After an exciting game, Miller Technology High School emerged victorious to claim the championship title.

While the standard of play was impressive, the focus of the day extended far beyond sport. The Gala Day aimed to promote teamwork, community connection and collaboration, while encouraging students to build new friendships across the Liverpool Opportunity Hub network.

Jessica Curry (Mentor)

"The Oz tag Gala Day was a massive success and everything we had hoped it would be. It was fantastic to see all of our students fully engaged, giving their best effort, and embracing the spirit of the day. Students demonstrated excellent teamwork, sportsmanship, and resilience, while also building new friendships and strengthening existing connections. The positive energy and enthusiasm shown throughout the day made it a memorable experience for everyone involved."

The event concluded with an awards presentation, where medals were presented to the winning team. Mikayla Hubbard from Hoxton Park High School was recognised as the Female MVP, while Lazarus Barnes from St Anthony’s of Padua Catholic School was named Male MVP.

We want to thank all the schools who attended and gave it their all on the field. A massive shout out to Vinnies as well for Providing food for our student and community on the day, a well-deserved feed after some well-played games.
