Liverpool Opportunity Hub Youth Lead Gambling Awareness Initiative

Souths Cares has continued to amplify the voices of young people, hosting a second Youth Consultation Workshop in partnership with GambleAware as part of the Souths Cares Gambling Education Campaign.

Held on Tuesday 21 April at Western Sydney University, the workshop brought together students from Ashcroft High School, Hoxton Park High School, Cecil Hills High School and Liverpool Independent School to further explore the impact of gambling and the influence of advertising on young people.

Building on insights from the initial consultation, the session provided a platform for students to share their perspectives, challenge gambling norms and contribute ideas that will help shape the campaign’s messaging and approach.

Jessica Curry, Liverpool Opportunity Hub Mentor

It’s powerful to see students speak up and share real ideas about gambling awareness. Their voices, combined with culturally respectful approaches, are key to creating messages that truly connect with the community.

Insights gathered from both workshops will continue to inform the rollout of the Souths Cares Gambling Education Campaign throughout 2026.

Souths Cares Gambling Education is proudly supported by GambleAware, which offers a range of resources for individuals and communities seeking information or support.

Misey Horne, Year 12 Graduate

I learned a lot about the risks of gambling, but also how we can actually make a difference. Being able to share our ideas and hear different perspectives, including Aboriginal voices, made it feel like our opinions really matter
