Participants from the South Care Program, Liverpool Opportunity Hub and Deadly Youth recently took part in a memorable cultural arts experience in the heart of Sydney, visiting the renowned Bangarra Dance Theatre rehearsal space.
On Friday 15 May, participants were welcomed behind the scenes for an exclusive opportunity to observe live rehearsals and gain a deeper understanding of the dedication, creativity and cultural storytelling that shape each Bangarra production.
Participant Bella-Rose Cameron“The visit to Bangarra was inspiring and eye-opening. From a backstage rehearsal to learning about costume design and touring for shows, it was an incredible opportunity to experience the passion, culture and teamwork behind every performance.”
The group also met with Bangarra’s costume designer, who shared valuable insights into the creative process behind the company’s performance pieces. Participants learned about the materials, artistic techniques and cultural elements incorporated into costume design, as well as how costumes are carefully packed and transported for performances across Australia and internationally.
The visit created a meaningful opportunity for social connection, cultural learning and creative exploration, bringing together participants from both Hubs to share in an unforgettable experience. Programs like these continue to foster confidence, inclusion and community participation while opening doors to future opportunities within the arts and cultural sector.
Mentor, Misey Horne“Watching our students experience the artistry and discipline of Bangarra Dance Theatre firsthand was incredibly inspiring. The opportunity to tour the company and observe a live rehearsal gave them a deeper appreciation for the dedication, storytelling and cultural connection that underpin professional performance. It was a memorable and enriching experience that will stay with them well beyond the visit.”
