Two outstanding participants in the Deadly Youth Mentoring Program, Wyntah and Mirrhtyi, have been recognised for their commitment, growth and dedication throughout Term 1, each receiving a brand new bicycle generously donated by Western Sydney University. Souths Care celebrated the achievements of these young people in a meaningful and memorable way, highlighting the program’s commitment to recognising positive behaviour, consistency and personal development.
The bicycles were presented as a surprise acknowledgment of the mentees’ hard work, and both students were visibly moved and grateful for the recognition. For many young people, rewards like these serve as powerful reminders that their efforts are seen, valued and supported by their community.
Wyntah has made an exceptional start to her high school journey, achieving an impressive 95.2% attendance rate in her first term. Her commitment to maintaining a consistent daily routine and prioritising her education has been a standout achievement. This reward reflects her strong focus on learning, her determination to succeed and her ability to build positive habits that will support her throughout her schooling years. Her progress demonstrates the impact of a supportive environment and the strength of her own motivation.
Mel Taufa (Female Mentor)“Wyntah has brought such a positive energy into her first term. She shows up with a great attitude and a real willingness to give things a go, and that says a lot about the young person she’s becoming. She is proud of herself, and her family is incredibly proud of her too."
Mirrhtyi has also shown remarkable growth this term. He has consistently engaged in his in school mentoring sessions, working closely with his mentor Yileen to significantly improve both his attendance and classroom participation. His willingness to show up, stay accountable and embrace guidance has been a key factor in his success. Mirrhtyi’s progress reflects his resilience and the strong rapport he’s developed with his mentor.
Yileen Gordon, Male Mentor"Mirrhtyi has shown incredible commitment to his mentoring sessions this term. He turns up ready to learn, ready to listen and ready to challenge himself. It’s been great to watch his confidence grow, and I’m incredibly proud of the effort he continues to put in."
Souths Cares is incredibly proud of both mentees and the effort they have shown throughout Term 1. Celebrating achievements like these reinforces the message that commitment, consistency and belief in one’s potential can open doors and create lasting change.
