Chantelle Leroy is a participant in Souths Cares Barranggirra Program who is working hard and leading the way for her family and community. Chantelle is completing her Certificate IV Traineeship in Cleaning with Killara Services and has received mentoring support since October last year through the Barranggirra Program.
Prior to commencing in the cleaning industry, Chantelle worked at Sydney Airport and in the childcare sector, which gave her transferrable skills and experience for working within diverse teams and in different work environments.
Chantelle commenced her Traineeship last year working in Parramatta as a Commercial Cleaner. Her employer, Killara Services quickly identified her great work ethic and dedication to the job and offered her a Team Leader role managing multiple commercial sites.
Taking on the new role meant travelling further from home and spending less time with family. Chantelle initially commenced a trial period whilst she adjusted to the challenge, before recognizing the great opportunities for growth and development and committed to the role full-time.
The supervisory role involves leading a small and diverse team, liaising with the client and managing cleaning services at six different buildings associated with the company Canva in Surry Hills.
Chantelle has embraced the challenges involved with leading a team, drawing upon her empathetic nature and great communication skills to create a positive team environment.
Chantelle explained she was enjoying the opportunity to be a team leader and contribute to a great workplace culture.
Chantelle Leroy, Barranggirra Participant and TraineeWorking with Killara makes me feel like we are one big family. Everyone within this workplace is so supportive and appreciative of all the little things you do which makes it even more enjoyable to come to work and be an inspiring leader.
Throughout her Traineeship, Souths Cares Mentors have been working with Chantelle to achieve her professional and personal goals, motivating Chantelle to stay on top of her studies and supporting her with assessment tasks.
Daisy Gordon, Barranggirra Mentor explained she was proud to see Chantelle’s hard work being rewarded.
"Chantelle's dedication as an employee has always been impressive, and it's such an amazing feeling to witness her employer acknowledge her hard work by offering her the chance to pursue a higher role and lead a team", Daisy said.
After completing her Traineeship in Cleaning, Chantelle will enrol in a Management Course as she continues her focus on professional development. The Barranggirra Program will continue to support Chantelle for a further six months after she completes her Traineeship to ensure a successful transition into the next chapter of her career.
The Barranggirra Program is proudly supported by Training Services NSW.
