Trophies on the Line at Redfern Oval Double Header as Women’s Comp Begins

The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ NSW Cup and Jersey Flegg Cup teams will play at home at Redfern Oval in matches this Saturday 12 June against the North Sydney Bears and Kaiviti Silktails respectively, with the Mario Fenech Cup and Manoa Thompson Bowl both up for grabs.

The Rabbitohs’ NSW Women’s Premiership team will also kick off their season with a round one clash with the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks.

The Rabbitohs’ NSW Cup team will be looking to secure the Mario Fenech Cup at Saturday’s 2pm game with a win over Norths, having defeated the Bears 16-12 three weeks ago. The Mario Fenech Cup started in 2023 and the winner is determined by the aggregate scores of the two regular season games played each year between South Sydney and North Sydney.

The Jersey Flegg Cup team will also be aiming to secure a trophy this Saturday at 11:45am when the men in red and green try to secure the Manoa Thompson Bowl against the Fijians. The Manoa Thompson Bowl started in 2024 and is named after former South Sydney player and Fijian international, Manoa Thompson. The winner is determined by the aggregate scores of the two regular season games played each year between the Rabbitohs and the Kaiviti Silktails. The Rabbitohs hold a 20-point advantage this season having defeated the Silktails 30-10 three weeks ago.

The South Sydney women’s team will play their round one fixture away from home against the Sharks at Ocean Protect Stadium on Saturday 13 June, with kick off scheduled for 11am. The women’s team had a strong pre-season campaign and are looking forward to commencing their season this weekend under coach Chris O’Connell.
