The South Sydney Rabbitohs have called in Gehamat Shibasaki to their NRL squad on a week-to-week basis to help cover the Club’s current injury toll.

Shibasaki is playing for the Rabbitohs-affiliated club, the Townsville Blackhawks, in the Queensland Cup and will join the Rabbitohs this week for training and potential selection.

Shibasaki, 25, has played 29 NRL games so far in his career since making his debut with the Broncos in 2018, as well as playing for the Knights and Cowboys, plus a stint in Japanese Rugby with the Green Rockets Tokatsu. He also represented the Queensland under 20s in 2016, 2017 and 2018, as well as the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII in 2018 and the Junior Kangaroos in the same year.

“We’re pleased to be able to call upon an experienced player with NRL experience at a difficult time with injuries,” Rabbitohs interim Head Coach Ben Hornby said.

“Gehamat has been playing strongly for the Townsville Blackhawks and this shows the value of our affiliation with them.

“He will come to Sydney this weekend and join the team for training next week ahead of the Dragons game on Saturday.”
