Tallis Duncan is looking forward to representing all parts of his family when South Sydney takes on Wests Tigers in Multicultural Round this weekend.
Representing His Heritage
The second-rower spoke with pride about what Multicultural Round means to him personally. With Maltese, Indigenous and Australian heritage, Duncan said the occasion holds special significance.
"It's special, obviously I've got a few different backgrounds, so it's just special to represent all parts of my family," he said. "Seeing all the other boys get to do the same thing I think it's really special. Everyone probably gets an extra gear to fight for and their family's involved."
Duncan explained he is excited to honour all aspects of his background when he takes the field against the Tigers.
Johnston Milestone
Duncan reflected on Alex Johnston's recent milestone match, noting how the winger handled the attention surrounding the occasion.
"He's pretty cool with that sort of stuff, he's a very smart guy so he's always handled that pretty well," Duncan said when asked about Johnston's response to the celebration.
The imagery around the Club's High Performance Centre has not gone unnoticed by the playing group. Duncan acknowledged the significance of seeing Johnston's achievements immortalised at the training venue, from the doors displaying the leading try-scorer record to the statue at the entrance. He described it as special to have played alongside someone whose legacy will remain at the Club forever. The team was disappointed not to secure a win during Johnston's milestone match, wanting to deliver the result for their teammate.
Humphreys Return and Tigers Challenge
Jamie Humphreys returns to the side this week, and Duncan highlighted what the halfback brings to the team. He praised Humphreys' composure, kicking game and defensive capabilities, adding that the number seven helps calm things down on the field.
Looking ahead to the clash with Wests Tigers, Duncan acknowledged the opposition showed quality in their previous match. He noted their fast-paced style and young outside backs who have been performing well.
"They're good players, I've versed both of them a couple of times and yeah they're good players," Duncan said of Tigers back-rowers. "Like you said it's a challenge and I enjoy it. I intend to make the most of it."
