Souths Cares Launches 20 Year Anniversary in 2026

This year marks 20 years of Souths Cares, a charity that has been built upon the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ long and proud history of supporting the community.

Since its establishment in 2006, Souths Cares has been committed to supporting disadvantaged and marginalised youth and their families, with a particular focus on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Souths Cares supports more than 35,000 individuals per year addressing education, training, health, and employment needs, and empowering generations of young people to reach their potential.

Souths Cares is an independent not-for-profit public benevolent institution, established to support the local community and address social need across the South Sydney region.

Your donation helps assist their program in supporting disadvantaged and marginalised youth and their families.

As the 43rd Charity Shield match approaches, Souths Cares is proud to launch its 20-year anniversary campaign. The Charity Shield has not only been an important tradition for the Rabbitohs, but also a key platform to highlight Souths Cares, providing the perfect opportunity to showcase programs, celebrate achievements, and engage the community. Since being established in 2006, Souths Cares has expanded its reach well beyond the South Sydney catchment area and has become one of the leading charities in Australia affiliated with a sporting organisation.

This year, the charity has set an ambitious goal: raising funds to purchase a Souths Cares House. This home will provide a safe, stable, and culturally grounded environment for young Rugby League players from low-socio economic backgrounds, involved in the Rabbitohs Pathways system. It will especially support Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Pasifika youth, offering mentorship, guidance, and a sense of belonging as they pursue their dreams and aspirations.

Throughout the year, Souths Cares will share stories that highlight the impact of the charity over the past 20 years, celebrate successes, and launch a range of fundraising initiatives aimed at making Souths Cares House a reality. Fans and community members will have the opportunity to contribute directly to this transformative project, ensuring young people have access to the support and stability they need.

Alisha Parker-Elrez, CEO Souths Cares

Souths Cares has spent 20 years supporting young people and families across our communities, providing opportunities, guidance, and a safe space to grow. The Charity Shield is a special opportunity for us each year, and this year we’re proud to use it to launch our 20-year anniversary campaign. We’re excited to bring everyone along as we work towards our goal of Souths Cares House, a place where young people are able to thrive and pursue their dreams and aspirations.
