Seniors Pathways Teams Go Down to Knights

The South Sydney Rabbitohs NSW Cup team came within two points of their Novocastrian opponents whilst the Jersey Flegg Cup team couldn’t match it with the Knights in the second half, in round nine action at Redfern Oval on Sunday.

The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ NSW Cup open men’s team went down 26 points to 24 at Redfern Oval on Sunday afternoon.

The Rabbitohs led 16 points to ten at half time courtesy of first half tries to five-eighth Josh Schuster, winger Haizyn Mellars and halfback Ashton Ward.

They continued to lead in the second half, up 20 points to 14 at the 66 minute mark following a try to big prop forward Salesi Ataata, before the Knights scored two tries of their own to lead 26-20.

In the final minute of play, centre Leonard Skelton scored for the Rabbitohs, but the conversion attempt was waved away and South Sydney fell by two points.

Mellars, Schuster, Ward, fullback Ammaron Gudgeon, prop Toesami Toevai, hooker Ryan Gray, second rower Henry O’Kane and lock Matt French all deserve praise for their efforts throughout the 80 minutes.

The NSW Cup team will have a bye in round ten.
