The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce their squad for Women in League Round ten against the Brisbane Broncos to be played this Friday 9 May, at 8pm at Accor Stadium.
Rabbitohs Head Coach Wayne Bennett has named a new-look backline with Latrell Mitchell at fullback to return from suspension with Jye Gray shifting to the interchange bench. Jamie Humphreys returns this week at halfback. Isaiah Tass has been named in the centres with Fletcher Myers named on the wing. In the forward pack, Siliva Havili has been named at hooker to replace the injured Peter Mamouzelos. Jai Arrow and Keaon Koloamatangi will be the starting front rowers with Lachlan Hubner returning to the starting line up at lock. Euan Aitken will join Tallis Duncan in the second row, with Sean Keppie moving to the interchange bench.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs and Souths Cares will be celebrating the Club’s female pathways squads at this game, including the open age Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership squad, the under 19s Tarsha Gale Cup squad, the under 17s Lisa Fiaola Cup squad, and the first and second cohorts of participants in Souths Cares’ ground-breaking female development program Play Her Way.
Play Her Way is a comprehensive skills and performance program dedicated to athletic development both on and off the field for aspiring female Rugby League players. The program was developed by Souths Cares with the objectives of increasing female participation in Rugby League, providing pathways for aspiring female Rugby League players to pursue elite sport, removing barriers to sport participation for key demographic groups including First Nations girls and/or girls from low socio-economic backgrounds, whilst providing female athletes with a high-performance program specifically developed for their needs.
Participants in the 9-11 age group took part in the first ten-week Play Her Way program during term one of the school year in 2025, with 17 girls completing the program, funded through the Australian Government’s $200 million Play Our Way grants program.
Currently the second cohort of 22 participants in the 12-13 age group are taking part in the program which covers areas such as fitness, speed, nutrition, sleep patterns, physical and mental preparation, passing, teamwork and safe tackling techniques.
In term three, girls aged 14-15 will take part in their ten-week program, followed in term four by the cohort featuring 16–17-year-old girls.
Play Her Way is facilitated by an all-female coaching team whilst strengthening connections between Rugby League, League Tag, Oz-Tag and Touch Football to provide participants with increased opportunities for skills development. Despite not currently fielding an NRLW team, the Rabbitohs are committed to fostering female Rugby League pathways in the South Sydney district.
All of these players and participants will be presented on field prior to kick off, with the second cohort of Play Her Way participants forming the first half guard of honour, in conjunction with the first cohort of Play Her Way participants joining the Rabbitohs players as they run onto the field for this huge game against the Broncos.
Also featuring on game day will be exhibition matches between four all-girls under 10s Rugby League teams from the South Sydney district including the Redfern All Blacks, Marrickville RSL, Mascot Jets and South Eastern Seagulls, who will play pre-game at Accor Stadium.
At half time, the players’ mothers, partners and children will form a guard of honour for the second half run out, celebrating Women in League Round and Mother’s Day which falls on Sunday 11 May.
