The South Sydney Rabbitohs are delighted to announce the contract extension of Premiership-winning, international front rower Thomas Burgess for the 2024 season today.
Burgess, 30, has played 211 NRL matches, all for the Rabbitohs, since making his first grade debut against the Parramatta Eels in 2013. He will move to fourth on South Sydney’s all-time most-capped player list when he plays against the Sydney Roosters tomorrow night, playing in two NRL Grand Finals for the Rabbitohs including the Premiership victory in 2014.
Thomas has represented England in 30 Test matches, played four Test matches for Great Britain, represented his homeland in three World Cups as well as a World Cup Nines tournament. He also played for the World All Stars in 2016.
Burgess is very pleased to be extending his time with the Rabbitohs.
“I’m over the moon to be extending my time with Souths. It’s a very special Club and I’m honoured to wear the colours every day.
“Souths has been a big part of my family since moving to Australia. I couldn’t envisage myself playing for any other Club in Australia.
“It’s great to be going around for another year for our Members and fans.
“This is a special place and we can certainly do some special things for our supporters in the next few years.”
Rabbitohs Head of Football, Mark Ellison, says Burgess has shown he can be one of the dominant front rowers in the NRL.
“‘We’re very happy to have Tom extend his time here at South Sydney. His experience up front is invaluable to us considering the number of young middles we have coming through the ranks,” Mr Ellison said.
“Tom has played at the highest levels in the NRL and for his country. He knows what it takes to win a Premiership and he has played more games for South Sydney than any other prop-forward in our Club’s history.
“We’re all looking forward to working with Tommy over this year and next as we try to reach our ultimate goal, winning another Premiership for this great Club.”
