Peter Mamouzelos Relishing Some Cheese & Garlick

Peter Mamouzelos is relishing his impact role off the bench, picking his moments nicely as the Club looks to rejoin the winners circle this Saturday night.

Embracing the Impact Role

Mamouzelos has settled comfortably into his role coming off the bench, entering games after the opening 20 minutes to bring fresh energy to the Rabbitohs' attack. The arrangement allows him to take advantage of tiring defensive lines while his fellow hookers handle the early physical exchanges.

"To be fair I'm really enjoying my role, coming on after the first 20 and get to play a bit more of my footy a bit more energetic and bring whatever the team needs, so I'm really enjoying my role and whatever the team needs if they need me to start I'll start," Mamouzelos explained.

The rotation between Mamouzelos, Bronson Garlick and Brandon Smith has created a strong dynamic within the squad. Mamouzelos praised the versatility of Smith, who can also slot into the lock and front row positions, as valuable for building combinations across different stages of matches.

Learning from Smith

The relationship between the three hookers extends beyond game day, with Mamouzelos benefiting from the experience of both Smith and Garlick. The trio get along well both on and off the field, creating a supportive environment for development.

Mamouzelos acknowledged he has picked up valuable insights from Smith's time in the competition, particularly around ball-running techniques. The veteran hooker has provided coaching cues at training that Mamouzelos has worked to incorporate into his own game, complementing his natural running style.

Dragons Challenge and Strong Start Focus

Looking ahead to the Dragons clash, Mamouzelos identified the importance of a strong start after the Rabbitohs fell behind early against the Raiders in their previous outing. The team left their comeback too late in that narrow loss, a lesson they have taken into this week's preparation.

"Just our start, we didn't nail our start and we sort of let them get a big lead and we had to fight back and we left it a bit too late, but that's our focus going into this game," Mamouzelos said.

The Rabbitohs are aware the Dragons will arrive desperate for their first win of the season, creating an intense contest. Mamouzelos expects to face a motivated opponent and knows South Sydney must match that hunger from the opening whistle.

The match also presents a reunion with a former teammate, and Mamouzelos acknowledged the healthy rivalry that exists between them. The pair competed for positions during their time together at the Club, pushing each other in training while maintaining a strong friendship off the field.
