NRL Match Preview: Rabbitohs vs Tigers RD11, 2025

Round 11 will see the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the Wests Tigers on Sunday evening at 6:15pm (AEST). These two clubs will do battle at Campbelltown Sports Stadium in what is sure to be a fierce encounter to close out the weekend of footy.

The Rabbitohs will be full of confidence after their strong victory over the Brisbane Broncos last Friday night.

Down 14-0 at halftime, the Red and Green turned on the comeback in the second half, which culminated in a two-point 49 metre field goal from Latrell Mitchell to give South Sydney the lead with two minutes remaining.

Mitchell then rubbed salt into the open wounds of the Brisbane side, pinching a try seconds before the fulltime siren when he caught the Broncos’ defenders napping from dummy half to seal the 22-14 win.

The Cardinal and Myrtle will be looking to make it two in a row off the back of this extraordinary victory. Having won four of their last five matches against the Tigers, South Sydney will certainly like their chances.

Jye Gray: “Everyone in our team had belief and that’s the reason we got the job done.”

Jye Gray spoke about the belief amongst the entire playing group, and how important it is to them to achieve positive results on the field. Much of that belief is instilled by Coach Wayne Bennett, whose halftime message played a significant role in getting South Sydney over the line against Brisbane.

“He (Wayne Bennett) said just have belief. He said that, you know, we weren’t clicking but it was going to come. Everyone in our team had belief and that’s the reason we got the job done.”

Lachlan Hubner: “I think they’re going to come out firing after the loss that they had.”

Despite their heavy 64-0 loss at the hands of Melbourne in round ten, Lachlan Hubner will not be complacent up against the Tigers’ forward pack. Hubner expects they will be hurting after such a one-sided defeat, and knows that he and his teammates will have to be up for the challenge when they face off this weekend.

“Yeah definitely. I think they’re going to come out firing after the loss that they had. But that’s a challenge within ourselves as a team. We’ve got to be up for it and look at ourselves first.”

Isaiah Tass: “He (Kotoni Staggs) is a strong defender, strong player and I’m glad to get one over him.”

Isaiah Tass was very happy with his try on the weekend, admitting that it gave him much satisfaction to have put such a great move on one of the game’s premier defensive centres in Kotoni Staggs. Tass’ try against Brisbane came in the 51st minute, and proved crucial as it got South Sydney back to within four points of their opponents. He will certainly be hoping to cross the line again this week against the Tigers.

“Yeah I didn’t really expect it to play off like that. I’m glad I got through a player of his calibre. He is a strong defender, strong player and I’m glad to get one over him. He got me a couple of times in that game, so I think to get one over him helps me.”

Team Changes

Wayne Bennett has made just one change to the side that defeated Brisbane in round ten, naming Alex Johnston on the wing in place of Fletcher Myers, who has been added to the extended bench in jersey 21.

He will be looking to return to his try-scoring ways as soon as possible and add to his already immense try tally of 196.
