Murray Ready for the Occasion

Cameron Murray has praised his new looks Rabbitohs side after their Round One win as the Club now prepares for Friday night’s match against the Sydney Roosters.

Left Edge Combination Clicking

showing promising signs early in the season. The new structure featuring Latrell Mitchell at left centre demonstrated its potential, though Murray was quick to note that Mitchell needs no reminders of his ability.

The players gave Mitchell some good-natured ribbing about not passing to Johnston in one particular moment, but Murray said Mitchell was firm in his decision. He suggested that Mitchell will create opportunities for his winger when the time is right, noting that if Mitchell sees a chance to set up Johnston, he will take it.

Murray was full of praise for Campbell Graham's return to the field, admitting he could barely remember the last time they played together. He described Graham as a consistent performer and first grader who competes hard and works for his teammates every time he takes the field.

Johnston's Milestone Moment

Murray believes the weight of chasing the record has been heaviest on Johnston himself, rather than his teammates who remain focused on their game day responsibilities.

"I think mostly it'll just be a weight off AJ's shoulders," Murray explained. "I think he probably can't walk down the street without someone reminding him that he's pretty close to that record, and so hopefully he breaks it sooner rather than later. He can get past it and forget about all that head noise he's probably having to deal with at the moment."

The lock admitted he might not even realise when the moment arrives, given the intensity of play on the field. Regardless of when it happens, Murray and his teammates will be the first ones to congratulate him on the milestone.

Roosters Rivalry and Round One Reflection

The clash with the Roosters this Friday night looms as another chapter in one of Rugby League's great rivalries, “It’s not a game we need to psyche ourselves up for… It’s always a big occasion.”

Murray was satisfied with the team's round one performance, particularly their ability to execute what they had practised throughout the pre-season. Keeping handling errors down, maintaining good discipline and giving their strike weapons opportunities to score were key objectives that the team delivered on.

With Ashton Ward unavailable, Murray is backing Jayden Sullivan to step into the halfback role, praising his experience, composure, and running game as key attributes the team can rely on.
