Community Event at Redfern Oval Sets Up Historic Double Header at Allianz Stadiu
Ahead of the South Sydney Rabbitohs' clash with the Parramatta Eels during the National Rugby League's (NRL) Indigenous Round, the Club joined forces with the NRL and the Police Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) to host a community event at the iconic Redfern Oval.
The event brought together players from the New South Wales (NSW) Police Force Indigenous Trackers and the Royal Australian Navy Indigenous Tridents, giving local fans and families the opportunity to meet both squads ahead of their historic first meeting.
Rabbitohs players Jonah Glover and Peter Mamouzelos joined the event and presented both teams with this year’s Rabbitohs Indigenous jersey ahead of Saturday night’s curtain raiser, helping mark the occasion and celebrate the significance of Indigenous Round.
The occasion marks a significant milestone, with the inaugural appearance of the NSW Police Force Indigenous Trackers—the first Indigenous Rugby League team ever formed by the NSW Police Force.
The Trackers and Tridents will face off in the curtain raiser to Saturday's Rabbitohs v Eels clash as part of the second Gadhu Gathering. Held during NRL Indigenous Round, the Gadhu Gathering brings four Sydney-based clubs together in partnership with Venues NSW to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture through rugby league. The event will be held at Allianz Stadium on Saturday 8 August, on the lands of the Gadigal and Bidigal People of the Dharawal nation.
Fans are encouraged to arrive early and catch all the action, with gates opening at 5:15pm AEST and the curtain raiser kicking off at 5:25pm AEST ahead of South Sydney's clash with Parramatta.
