Rabbitohs NRL squad for Women in League Round 20 against Raiders this Saturday

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce their squad for their Women in League Round 20 match against the Canberra Raiders to be played this Saturday 18 July at 3pm at GIO Stadium.

Rabbitohs Head Coach Wayne Bennett has named Alex Johnston to return on the wing and Cody Walker to return at five-eighth against the Raiders.

The Rabbitohs will be wearing a special alternate strip in the upcoming game against the Raiders. The ‘Ode to Redfern’ jersey pays tribute to the community in the heartland of South Sydney territory, the people of Redfern. The colours reflect Redfern Station, as do the tiling patterns on the jersey, and the stripes on the sleeves are a nod to the Redfern All Blacks. Proceeds of purchases of this jersey from the Rabbitohs will go towards South Sydney legend Nathan Merritt and his family as he battles stage four cancer.

The Stand With Jai fundraising campaign throughout July continues in round 20, with Rabbitohs premier partner, Budget Direct donating $1,000 for every try scored by the Rabbitohs throughout July. AirTouch will donate $10,000 if Head Coach Wayne Bennett does the arrow celebration in the coaches box during July, and NRL partners Coca-Cola and Select footy cards are also donating to the fundraising efforts for Jai Arrow, all as part of the Stand With Jai campaign.

The Rabbitohs and Souths Cares are highlighting their Play Her Way program this Women in League Round. Play Her Way, proudly supported by the Australian Government through the Play Our Way initiative, is helping remove the barriers that prevent girls from participating in Rugby League and staying involved in sport.

In its very first year, the response was extraordinary. The program received 289 applications, with more than 150 girls registering interest in the Girls Only Skills Clinic within the first week. Across four age groups, the program achieved a 75% completion rate, with 39% of participants identifying as First Nations.

Just as importantly, 31% of participants said that family finances had previously been a barrier to playing Rugby League. Through Play Her Way, every participant receives a full equipment pack, including football boots, as well as their registration fees for the following season, ensuring cost doesn't determine whether a girl gets the opportunity to play.

This program is about far more than football. It's about confidence, leadership, belonging and creating opportunities for the next generation of young women. The demand is there, the impact is already clear, and with the right support, programs like Play Her Way can continue changing lives for many more girls in our community
