The 2022 Elimination Final at Allianz Stadium has already taken its place among the most unforgettable matches in Rabbitohs history. A chaotic and fiery performance now known simply as ‘Sin Bin Sunday'.
In a game defined by an NRL-record seven sin bins and long stretches where South Sydney were forced to defend with only 11 men, the Rabbitohs showed remarkable composure and character. What could have unravelled their season instead became one of the Club’s great finals triumphs over their oldest rivals.
The match swung wildly from the opening minutes, but South Sydney held their nerve. Latrell Mitchell, targeted by the crowd all game, responded with a pinpoint cut-out pass for Alex Johnston before barging over himself for a momentum-shifting try. Cody Walker controlled the game beautifully, laying on tries for Johnston and Jai Arrow as the Rabbitohs surged ahead despite repeated setbacks.
Even as more players found their way to the sin bin, South Sydney’s defensive resolve never wavered. Their scrambling under pressure, down numbers and under fatigue, became the defining image of the night.
Isaiah Tass sealed the result with a sharp step and finish late in the game, putting an exclamation mark on a 30–14 victory that ended the Roosters’ season and sent the Rabbitohs deeper into the finals.
Sin Bin Sunday remains one of those rare games that becomes folklore - a raw, gritty and unforgettable display of the spirit that has defined South Sydney for generations.
