Rabbitohs Beat Bears in Foundation Club Clash
The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ NSW Cup team have dealt out a strong 18-points-to-two win over the North Sydney Bears at Redfern Oval on Saturday, whereas the Jersey Flegg Cup side went down to the Storm.
The North Sydney Bears retained the Mario Fenech Cup by two points on aggregate following a 30-12 win over South Sydney in round six of the NSW Cup competition, with a cheeky North Sydney penalty goal kicked in the penultimate minute of the return match securing the trophy, but not the two competition points, for the visitors.
The Rabbitohs scored two tries in the first half through front-rower Tim Johannssen and winger Haizyn Mellars, leading ten-nil at the half time break.
In the second half, second-rower Jacob Host crossed next to the posts to secure the win, just the side’s second victory of the season.
Mellars, Host, Johannssen, centre Talanoa Penitani, half back Ashton Ward, five-eighth Matthew Humphries (who was on NSW Cup debut), second-rower Thomas Fletcher, and props Shaquai Mitchell and Salesi Ataata were rated the Rabbitohs’ best players on the day.

The Rabbitohs’ Jersey Flegg Cup under 21s men’s team went down to the Melbourne Storm 34-points-to-18 at Redfern Oval on Saturday.
South Sydney led 18-6 at half time, however the Storm scored five unanswered tries in the second half to secure the two competition points.
Hooker Riley Frame, front-rower Devante Mihinui and halfback Bailey Smith crossed for four-pointers but it was not enough to defeat the visitors from Victoria.
Smith, Frame, Mihinui, wingers Charlie Poynton and Jacob Fong, centre Zane Rugless, second-rower Josh Alhazim and middle forward Daniel Lua were the Rabbitohs’ best on Saturday.
