Opening of the Reg Richardson AO Training & Learning Centre at Redfern Oval

On August 12, 2025, the Reg Richardson AO Training & Learning Centre was officially opened at Redfern Oval, marking an important milestone in community education and sporting development. This new facility, developed through a partnership between TAFE NSW and the Rabbitohs Institute, aims to provide students with access to world-class training and learning opportunities.

The centre is named in honour of Reg Richardson AO, whose generous support has been instrumental in the redevelopment of the space. Reg Richardson AO spoke passionately about the significance of the centre in supporting young people to build their skills and pursue their ambitions in both education and sport.

Kim McDonald, Director of Health, Wellbeing & Community Services at TAFE NSW, highlighted the strong collaboration between TAFE and the Rabbitohs Institute, emphasising the positive impact the centre will have on student learning and community wellbeing.

A key feature of the centre is its new high-performance gym and training facilities, designed to support the physical development of future Rabbitohs players and strengthen pathways for young athletes pursuing professional sporting careers. The facility offers students and athletes the resources needed to excel both on and off the field.

The official ribbon-cutting was performed by Reg Richardson AO alongside special guests including Minister Michael Daley, Minister Ron Hoenig, Monica Barone from the City of Sydney NSW, as well as former Rabbitohs players Bob McCarthy, Michael Andrews, and Wayne Stevens.

Attendees toured the new facility, engaging with students and staff and gaining insight into the programs and pathways available through the centre.

Bringing together community, education, and sport, the Reg Richardson AO Training & Learning Centre is paving the way for the future.
