March to Our Heartland: Join Us Ahead of the Blockbuster Clash with the Roosters
Join Rabbitohs past players and fellow Rabbitohs Members and fans as we march to our Heartland ahead of round 27, when we take on the Roosters at Allianz Stadium. The march departs from the SCG Gate B on Driver Ave at 7:00pm, with everyone asked to meet at 6:45PM on Friday, 4 September, before we walk together to Allianz Stadium ahead of kick-off at 8:00PM.
This is more than a march to a game. It is a march that fans have been building toward for years.
The push to come home
For nearly two decades the Rabbitohs have played the majority of home games out of Accor Stadium at Sydney Olympic Park, a long way from Redfern, Waterloo, Maroubra and the wider South Sydney and eastern suburbs communities the Club calls home.
The Rabbitohs have finalised a four-season agreement with Venues NSW and the New South Wales (NSW) Government that will split home games between Allianz Stadium and Accor Stadium through to 2030, with the balance shifting gradually toward Moore Park. The Club will play four games at Allianz Stadium and seven at Accor Stadium in 2027, rising to five at Allianz Stadium and seven at Accor Stadium each season from 2028 to 2030.
This season is already carrying that shift forward. The Rabbitohs returned to Allianz Stadium for round 23 against the Parramatta Eels during Indigenous Round as part of the Gadhu Gathering, and do so again this Friday for round 27 against the Roosters, the season's Ron Coote Cup finale.
A rivalry built for our Heartland
Few fixtures carry the weight of Rabbitohs versus Roosters. Both clubs were foundation clubs of the New South Wales Rugby League competition in 1908, and the rivalry between South Sydney and their Eastern Suburbs neighbours has been one of the fiercest in Rugby League ever since. The two clubs meet each year for the Ron Coote Cup, named for the great who won six premierships and played in nine Grand Finals across a career split between South Sydney and Eastern Suburbs. The Friday 4 September clash is the last of this year's two-match series, and with it doubling as our biggest home game back in our Heartland.
