Flegg Cup Back in Winners’ Circle Against Fijians

The South Sydney Rabbitohs’ under 21s Jersey Flegg Cup team has bounced back into the winner’s circle against the Kaiviti Silktails with a hard-fought 14 points to six victory at Redfern Oval on Saturday.

The Rabbitohs’ performance was hampered by errors and ill-discipline, and it was a scoreless second half after the Rabbitohs piled on three tries to the Silktails’ one in the opening half.

The Silktails led six-nil after just nine minutes when prop Kaveni Tikomaiiligadi crashed over, but three unanswered tries followed for South Sydney.

In the 14th minute, centre Talanoa Penitani showed crossed from the right-hand-side to the left side of the field, showing enormous speed to out run the Silktails’ defence from a 20 metre restart.

17 minutes later the fullback Dane Towns crossed the goal line, and five minutes after it was centre Daniel Wright’s turn to score.

No points were added in the second half despite both teams having opportunities deep in enemy territory.

The Jersey Flegg competition goes into hiatus next weekend duty representative matches in the NSWRL competitions.

South Sydney Rabbitohs 14 (Talanoa Penitani, Dane Towns, Daniel Wright tries; Riley Frame goal) defeated Kaiviti Silktails 6
