Dean Rampling Calls 'Henry'

One of the most spirited finals performances in Rabbitohs history came in 1984, when South Sydney fought back from a disastrous opening to defeat a star-studded Manly outfit 22–18 in a fiery preliminary semi-final at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Having already played twice that week, including a midweek playoff win over Canberra, Souths entered the match battered, sore and considered long outsiders. Manly, packed with internationals, were expected to cruise into the next round.

Those predictions looked spot on when the Sea Eagles raced to a 14–0 lead after just ten minutes. But as a scrum packed, Rabbitohs prop Dean Rampling barked the call of “Henry,” sparking a wild all-in brawl that flipped the energy of the contest. It was the circuit-breaker South Sydney needed.

Led by captain Ziggy Niszczot and hooker Mario Fenech, the Rabbitohs clawed their way back into the match, drawing level 14–all by halftime. The momentum carried into the second half, where Souths outplayed Manly in a gritty, physical contest to secure a remarkable 22–18 victory.

A moment that perfectly reflects why, since 1908, South Sydney is still here.
