“As a Club we’re looking forward to renewing our connections in Cairns, a home-away-from-home for our Club over the past decade,” Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly said. “We have built a fantastic following in far North Queensland since we first visited Cairns in 2013.

“Bob Manning and his team at Cairns Regional Council, along with Minister Hinchliffe and the Queensland government, have always been supportive of us taking games to Cairns and the FIFA Women’s World Cup has given us the opportunity to return to the region this year.

“We’re look forward to another healthy crowd this year and we hope everyone will be cheering on the red and green in August at Barlow Park.”

Mayor of Cairns, Cr Bob Manning OAM, said: “It will be fantastic to have top level rugby league back in Cairns in 2023.

“Cairns is truly a regional heartland for Rugby League and Council has built a long-standing relationship with the NRL, and in particular the Rabbitohs, and I thank them for choosing to bring a premiership match back to the city.

“Cairns has a growing reputation for a premier sporting tourism destination and hosting a NRL premiership fixture only adds to that standing.

“This is the first time we’ll have an NRL Premiership game in Cairns since 2018, although we have hosted a few trial games in that time.

“Every time this level of Rugby League is played in Cairns it’s a great thing for our city, it’s great for Rugby League, it’s great for the people of Cairns, and it’s particularly great for the young people of Cairns.

“The Rabbitohs are also very good with their time, and they make the most of the opportunity to engage with the community through school visits and coaching clinics.”

Eligible Rabbitohs Queensland Members will be able to redeem general admission tickets with their unique code that was sent via email from the Rabbitohs Membership team on the morning of Wednesday 24 May.

This match between the Rabbitohs and Dragons on Saturday 12 August at Barlow Park, Cairns is proudly supported by the Queensland Government through its tourism and major events agency, Tourism and Events Queensland.
