Alex Johnston Wins 2026 Try of the Year

Alex Johnston has been awarded the 2026 Try of the Year at tonight's Dally M Awards ceremony at The Cutaway in Barangaroo, Sydney.

The Try of the Year was Johnston's 213th career try, scored against the Sydney Roosters at a sold-out Allianz Stadium in Round Two. That try surpassed the 53-year record held by the late Ken Irvine and etched Johnston's name as the greatest try scorer in Australian Premiership history. The moment sparked scenes rarely seen in the modern game, with the crowd storming the field in celebration as Johnston rewrote Rugby League history in the red and green. Johnston finished the season with 30 tries from 22 NRL appearances, topping the Rabbitohs try-scoring list for the tenth time in his 13-season career.
