The South Sydney Rabbitohs are calling for expressions of interest to trial for a place in the South Sydney Rabbitohs x Souths Juniors Female Pathways squads, including the under 19s Tarsha Gale Cup squad and the under 17s Lisa Fiaola Cup squad.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs are creating one of the strongest pathways for female players in Rugby League, fielding teams in all NSWRL women's competitions from open age to under 17s levels.
Players from the Tarsha Gale Cup and Lisa Fiaola Cup will also have the chance to earn a spot in the Rabbitohs ‘Black Rabbits’ elite player development program.
Rabbitohs Head of Female Pathways, Dale Jackson, said it's important for the Club to build solid foundations in the women’s game to ensure success at the top levels.
"This is a great opportunity for girls and women from the local district and afar to trial for a position in our under 17s and under 19s female squads as head towards season 2024," Jackson said.
"We've had great success in unearthing some elite talents at female trials over recent years, with some of those players going to play representative football and at the NRLW level.
"We encourage everyone that is interested in trialing for a position in our Tarsha Gale Cup and Lisa Fiaola Cup squads to submit their expressions of interest before the cut off date so we can assess the applications and send out invitations to the trials.
Any girls turning 16 or 17 years of age in 2024 are eligible to apply for a place in the Lisa Fiaola Cup trial.
Similarly, any women turning 18 or 19 years of age in 2024 are eligible to apply for a position in the Tarsha Gale Cup trial.
Expressions of interest for these squads will close at 5pm on Friday 8 September, 2023. Those who are then invited to trial will be notified by email by Friday 15 September, 2023.
