Rabbitohs Extend Contract of Cody Walker Until End of 2022

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are excited to announce the contract extension of New South Wales State of Origin and Indigenous All Stars representative Cody Walker which will see him in red and green until at least the end of the 2022 season.

Walker, 29, has played 96 NRL matches, all for South Sydney, following his debut against the Sydney Roosters in round one of the 2016 season.

Walker went on to make his State of Origin debut for New South Wales in 2019, as well as captaining the Indigenous All Stars and representing the Australian Prime Minister’s XIII at season’s end, capping a stellar 2019 season for the product of Casino on the New South Wales north coast.

Walker could not be happier about re-signing with South Sydney.

“I’m really happy to have this contract signed. South Sydney is my home and I didn’t want to play for anyone else,” Walker said.

“There’s really no other option for me. It was my priority to stay here and I’m glad the Club and my management were able to come to an agreement before Christmas so we can enjoy this special time of year as a family, then turn our focus back onto getting prepared for next season.

The Redfern community has really taken me and my family in and I call this place home now.

“I can’t wait to see what’s ahead in the coming years for this Club, this team, the Members and the supporters.

“There are exciting times ahead and I can’t wait to part of it all.”

Rabbitohs General Manager of Football, Shane Richardson, said Walker’s re-signing was a priority for South Sydney.

Cody’s game went to a new level in 2019, as did his leadership at the Club

“He is one of the most potent attacking players in the competition and he showed he has the resolve to be one of the best defensive halves in the NRL as well.

“His performances have been rewarded with not only a new contract, but also his selections for the Indigenous side, New South Wales and the Australian Prime Minister’s team this year. He also captained our side on a number of occasions this year which shows the growth in him as a leader.

“He is South Sydney through-and-through; his partner Nellie, who is in our women’s football program as well as his two boys, Kian and Kade, are part of the fabric here at Souths; he is very active with Souths Cares in the community and we knew we would always get a deal done with Cody despite speculation to the contrary over recent months.

“He is a quality footballer from a great family and we’re looking forward to seeing him take a greater leadership role at the Club over the next two years.”
