The 2020 NRL draw was released today with the Rabbitohs confirmed to be playing home games at ANZ Stadium and Bankwest Stadium in Sydney, on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane in Queensland, on the Central Coast in New South Wales, and the annual Charity Shield pre-season clash in Mudgee.

The Rabbitohs will play seven home games at ANZ Stadium, included four in the first six rounds, prior to the commencement of the redevelopment of the Olympic stadium, followed by two home games at the Club’s new home base at Bankwest Stadium for the next two-and-a-half seasons.

Rabbitohs Ticketed Members will have access to eight games at ANZ Stadium in 2019, including the final game to be played at ANZ Stadium which will be a blockbuster away fixture against fellow tenants, the Canterbury- Bankstown Bulldogs, in round 17 on Saturday 27 June at 5:30pm. This will be played after the second State of Origin game in the 2020 series, in a fitting way to farewell ANZ Stadium before the makeover.

The Rabbitohs’ first home game at Bankwest Stadium will be another big event, taking on the Wests Tigers on Saturday 11 July at 7:35pm in the mid-year school holidays. The Club will also have two home games in the Easter school holiday period, those being the Good Friday clash with the Bulldogs in round five on 10 April at 4:05pm and the Sunday afternoon game against the Dragons in round six on Sunday 19 April at 2:05pm.

The Rabbitohs will play a home game against the New Zealand Warriors at Sunshine Coast Stadium in round 22 on Saturday 15 August at 3pm, supported by Tourism and Events Queensland and Sunshine Coast Council. This is the second consecutive year that the Rabbitohs have taken a home game to the Sunshine Coast and played against the Warriors.

South Sydney will also play a home game at Central Coast Stadium in Gosford in round 23 on Saturday 22 August at 5:30pm against last season’s Grand Finalists, the Canberra Raiders. This is the third consecutive year the Rabbitohs have played a home game at Central Coast Stadium, maintaining the strong connection the Club has with this Rugby League heartland, partnering with Central Coast Council.

The Rabbitohs have also been scheduled to play a home game in the NRL’s Magic Weekend to be played at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium against the Newcastle Knights. Magic Weekend is round eight in 2020, with the Rabbitohs set to play on Saturday 2 May at 3pm.

For the third consecutive year, the Rabbitohs and Dragons will link with the people of Central West NSW with the 37th Charity Shield to be played at Mudgee’s Glen Willow Regional Sports Stadium, supported by Mid-Western Regional Council.

Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly is looking forward to the Rabbitohs reconnecting with their Membership bases in these areas once again in 2020.

It’s an exciting year for our Sydney-based Members who will have the opportunity to farewell their home ground of 15 seasons in the best way possible in 2020

“We want everyone to remember ANZ Stadium as the South Sydney Rabbitohs’ home ground, and to create more memories before we head to Bankwest Stadium which is arguably the best Rugby League stadium in the world.

“We will never forget that night in October 2014 when John Sutton held the NRL Premiership trophy aloft at ANZ Stadium, so it’s a privilege to get to relive those memories once again this season before the stadium is redeveloped.

“Our Members and fans can rest assured we will also be doing everything we can to turn Bankwest Stadium into a fitting home ground for the team, and a brilliant experience for anyone attending our matches there. We’re looking forward to unveiling the plans we have for the move as we get closer to that date in July 2020.

“In terms of the total draw, we have seven home games on Saturdays which are much better timeslots for families. We have no Friday home games that start at 6pm which is another win for the majority of those people wanting to attend games to support the team, and we have three home games in the school holidays. We also have a series of home and away matches against our traditional Sydney rivals, and we want as many Members and fans in the stands to cheer the team home.

“We also have over 50% of our Members that live outside of the Sydney basin, so it’s important for us as a Club to try to join with as many of these people as we can throughout the year.

“It’s also important for the sport to support those that support us, and the people in regional areas have shown they love their Rugby League, hence why we’re happy to do our part to take some of our games to these regional centres.

“Last season we played games on the Sunshine Coast, Central Coast and Mudgee, all in front of bumper crowds, and we’re looking forward to heading to these centres to play Rugby League and expose the Rabbitohs to these areas once again.

“All-in-all we’re excited about the season ahead and the best way that our fans can support the Club is by becoming a Member. We hope to see all of our Members at games all over the country throughout 2020.”
