Alex Johnston selected for Papua New Guinea

Congratulations to Alex Johnston who has been selected in the Papua New Guinea Test squad for the upcoming Test matches against Fiji on Saturday 9 November and Great Britain on Saturday 16 November.

Johnston will line up alongside 2020 Rabbitohs recruit and fellow speedster, Edene Gebbie, in what will be his first taste of test football in almost five years.

"It feels great to be back playing at the international level and even more special that it's to represent my Papua New Guinea heritage," Johnston said.

While also a proud Indigenous man, Johnston said his PNG roots stem from his Grandma as "she was born in PNG and grew up in Lumi, a small district in the Sandaun Province."

In 2019, Johnston only played 15 games for the Rabbitohs after a knee injury saw him sidelined for half of the season.

He later returned in the backend of the year, scoring a brilliant try in the must-win Semi Final against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, proving he hasn't skipped a beat with his blistering pace.

Despite the hampered season, Johnston said he's looking forward to the experience.

"I can't wait to play in the red, black and gold," Johnston said.

"My main goal is to just play my best and make my family and the people in PNG proud."
