South Sydney Rabbitohs Jersey Flegg front rower Lachlan Gale has been selected for the 2019 Australian Schoolboys side.
Gale, 17, has played six games of Jersey Flegg this season after graduating from the SG Ball side earlier in the year.
The Mascot Junior has risen through the South Sydney ranks and is thrilled to be selected for the Australian Schoolboys.
"My year so far has been really good and I'm very excited," Gale said.
"I've come up from SG Ball and played six games for the Jersey Flegg so far. The transition has been very smooth and playing with the older boys has helped my game.
"I've come off the bench each game but I've been happy with my game time.
"Ben Rogers (Jersey Flegg Head Coach) has been such a great help to me this year. He pulled me aside as a younger forward and gave me direction when I needed it, and he's been a great coach for my footballing progression.
"I'm looking forward to representing the green and gold jersey with pride and playing the type of footy I like to play and doing the best I can."
Jersey Flegg head coach Ben Rogers believes that Gale is a player for Rabbitohs Members and supporters to keep an eye on.
"I'm extremely proud of him," Rogers said.
"He had a bit of a tough year battling injuries in the SG Ball side but he's graduated to the Jersey Flegg and all that hard work has been rewarded.
"He's got a really strong carry, and he's a strong defender and is great for cleaning up in the ruck. Most importantly, he's big on his effort areas.
"As a 17-year-old, playing Jersey Flegg (under 20s) is already a huge achievement. He works hard off the field and asks plenty of questions to the staff to see how he can better his performance.
"On the field, he is all about effort and makes sure he puts himself in every single play so it's a great reward for him for all the effort he has put in both on and off-field."
The Rabbitohs would like to congratulate Lachlan on his selection.
