Rabbitohs announce Return to Redfern VII

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to announce the Club will be hosting a Return to Redfern trial match at the Metricon High Performance Centre at Redfern Oval against the Penrith Panthers on Saturday February 23. You can BUY TICKETS HERE

The Return to Redfern concept began in 2009 as the Rabbitohs hosted the Wests Tigers in a historic match which saw the Red and Green play at their spiritual ground for the first time since 1996.

One decade later, the Club will be playing its seventh rendition and the first since 2015.

Since then, the popular event has seen the Rabbitohs host a number of opposition teams outside of the NRL including the Newtown Jets (Intrust Super Premiership), Warrington Wolves (Super League), Papua New Guinea Residents XIII (International) and Northern Pride (Intrust Super Cup), giving the Club a new-look opponent each year.

In a move that will excite younger and older fans alike, four grades (NRL, Jersey Flegg, SG Ball and Harold Matthews) will be on show, which will give Rabbitohs Members and supporters a chance to see both current and future stars play on the hallowed Redfern Oval turf in an old-school format.

Rabbitohs CEO Blake Solly emphasised the excitement around the event and the importance of playing at the Club's spiritual ground.

"The Club is very much looking forward to playing at Redfern for the first time since 2015," said Mr. Solly.

"It's also Return to Redfern in more ways than one; as it is the start of a number of fixtures that will be played here throughout the 2019 season for our ISP, Jersey Flegg and Women's teams.

"We know that Redfern holds a special place in the hearts of Rabbitohs fans, and playing more games here in 2019 ensures all our Members and supporters are excited about the return of a full pathways program and what that will bring to the Club.

"It will have a real community focus - we want to make sure that these matches and the Rabbitohs are seen at the heart of the community by bringing people together, having a great day out and going home happy."

"Previous RTR matches have been well-attended, we expect this one to be a sell-out, and we believe all the matches here throughout the course of the year will have plenty of Red and Green supporters in the stands.

"The matches will be a great opportunity for Members and supporters to see the best of our young players and those pressing for first-grade berths in the flesh, at the spiritual home at the Rabbitohs.

"I'd also like to welcome Metricon Homes as our partner for the High Performance Centre at Redfern Oval. Metricon makes homes people love, and we know our Members and supporters will love watching the Rabbitohs teams play at home in Redfern throughout 2019."
