GI delivers the surprise of a lifetime

Lifelong South Sydney Rabbitohs Member Tommy Deasey received the visit of a lifetime when South Sydney Rabbitohs Captain Greg Inglis surprised him at the Kanandah Nursing Home in Mudgee.

Town Mayor Des Kennedy was there to witness what was an incredible moment.

“When he walked in he was a bit startled old Tommy,” Cr Kennedy said.

“He may struggle with his memory. I think he might have just ignored him for a moment but then he just stared at Greg and yelled out 'the Goanna!'

“He had tears in his eyes, his wife came in and she was just unconsolable. She said it made his whole life and that he can die happy now.”

Originally from the South Sydney region, Tommy took that unwavering passion with him to Mudgee. In years gone by he owned the local Soldier’s Motel - a popular accommodation spot in the centre of town.

He also owns a team photo which Inglis was more than happy to etch his signature across, as told by Kennedy himself.

“All his life he’s been a supporter. He had an old photograph of Souths with a list of all the Premierships. One of the nurses went and got that and Greg signed that. It was really wonderful.”

Glory glory to Tommy Deasey.
