Jennings is relishing Wigan challenge

Outside back Robert Jennings is determined to impress the South Sydney Rabbitohs coaching staff in the team's first competitive hit out against English Super League side Wigan Warriors.

Going into his second season with the Club, Jennings is looking to take on the next challenge in his career and believes the 2017 World Club Champions are the perfect first test.

The Cherry and Whites recorded a 24-10 victory over their domestic rivals Hull FC on Saturday in Wollongong and are expected to be in sharp condition to face the Red and Green.

“It’s going to be tough coming up against Wigan,” said Jennings.

“It will be great for me, I’ve never gone up against a team from another country so it should be a good test.

Having made 13 appearances last season and scoring five tries including a four-pointer on debut, Jennings is looking to improve on his solid results in 2017. With competition for places more fierce than ever, the former Penrith Panther is aware of what he needs to do to better last year's performances.

“Just being consistent and being strong each week is the goal, if I can get that right the rest will follow.”

Playing both centre and wing in 2017, Jennings is focused on earning a starting jersey, and with just two trial matches before the start of the season, the 22-year-old knows that both games are big opportunities to demonstrate his capabilities.

There is one thing the young flyer is hoping to reignite in 2018 and that’s his combination with fellow 2017 debutant Tyrell Fuimaono.

"We’ve been working on our combinations I’ve got that strong background with him growing up back out West, everything has been well and we’re just working on our game.”

With pre-season now coming to a close, Jennings believes he has gelled well with his new teammates and coaching staff.

“It's been tough but with some new faces in the team its been good and so far its been great,” said Jennings.

“They’re fitting in real well  and we’re gelling together, pre-season is just about getting us right for the season and everyone is doing well.

“Obviously it's been different with Seibs (Anthony Seibold) coming in but everything has been great.”
