Get to know... Richard Kennar

Born in Apia, Samoa, Richard Kennar moved to the AFL heartland of Melbourne at a young age. Bucking the trend of most Victorians, Kennar pursued rugby league with junior club, The Northern Thunder. An NRL player brought up through the Victorian Rugby League System is a rarity in today’s game.
In 2011, Kennar’s talent saw him turn out for the Australian Schoolboys. From 2012 to 2014, he featured in Melbourne Storm’s under 20s squad.
Fast forward to 2015 and Kennar was granted a first grade debut in Round 13 against the Penrith Panthers. He went on to play six games in total that year and added to these appearances in 2016 to take his tally to nine.
In 2017, Kennar was signed to the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. Despite not breaking into the first grade squad, he was pivotal in powering their New South Wales Cup side to the preliminary final where they lost to eventual premiers, the Panthers. The 23-year-old is currently under contract with the Rabbitohs until the end of 2019.
Standing at 185cm and weighing in at 104kg, Kennar adds strength, size and depth to the backline. His explosive running game makes him tricky customer close to the line.

Kennar is adept at playing both wing and centre and will be pushing for a starting spot on the flank.
