Electrifying five-eighth Cody Walker says there is a fire in the bellies of the Rabbitohs playing squad to play good football in our remaining five fixtures.
Reflecting on the Rabbitohs 2017 season, Walker admits it has been disappointing but he stresses that there have been positives in the emergence of young players this year.
Always putting the Club in front of the individual, Walker was hesitant to name specific players, the five-eighth instead underlining the team's desire to display the football South Sydney is capable of this Friday at the SCG.
“I think there’s been a couple of players who have been good for us this season. (I'm) not singling anyone out but it’s been a disappointing season we’re looking for a win this week," said Walker.
“We’re still going out there to put our bodies on the line for this Club and we’re looking for a win this weekend and to build into the pre-season.
“I don’t think we’ll forget it, I think we’ve learned a lot of lessons this season, one being that we need to give ourselves every opportunity to complete our sets and hold onto the ball. It’s pretty basic and we’re not doing that."
Cody is excited for a clash with rivals St George Illawarra at the historic SCG and is happy the weather looks to be setting up a great day for the contest.
“It’s a massive occasion there at the SCG. We got beaten there last year in pretty bad conditions but by the looks of today it’ll be pretty good this weekend," said Walker.
With young Souths forward Angus Crichton showing grit and determination to play through an injured foot, Walker jokes at his ability to power on through an injury. On a more serious note, Walker has been impressed by the form of Crichton throughout 2017.
“I wouldn’t be able to do it, he’s a tough boy," said Walker.
“He’s a very tough kid, a country boy, and we’re lucky to have him in our side”
