Walker Praises Younger Players

Five-eighth Cody Walker faced the media this week, pointing out the desire for the team to redeem themselves after their loss against the Storm, and to finish off the year in style against the Parramatta Eels this Friday.

“It’s definitely unacceptable from our point of view. I definitely thought we played well in patches, we just didn’t do it for long enough,” Walker said.

“I think we’ve definitely played some good footy over the past four weeks, going on a three game winning streak.

“As I said before I thought we played well in patches but going down there and giving that much ball to the Melbourne Storm they’ll make you pay.”

This Friday will mark the last game for a number of Rabbitohs players and Walker explained that the squad was looking to send those players off on a high note.

“There’s an opportunity for a few blokes to come in and play their last game for the Club, with Zane Musgrove getting suspended there’s an opportunity for Dave Tyrrell to come in and play his last game as well as Bryson Goodwin so we’re looking forward to this weekend.”

Despite the team not reaching the finals, Walker insisted that the Club was in good stead for the future, with a number of youngsters stepping up to the plate throughout the season.

“I think young Gus (Angus Crichton) has been tremendous this year, we’ve had some young guys that have really stood up and they’ll be better for the run next year.

“Cameron Murray has been great these last few weeks, Campbell Graham is still in school, and Tyrell Fuimaono is another one, with Robert Jennings and Braidon Burns, so I think we’re heading in the right direction and I think those players will be better off after having their first year in the NRL.”
