Vale Norm Nilson

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are mourning the passing of former premiership-winning player, Club President and Life Member, Norm Nilson, who passed away following a long battle with dementia on Friday.

Mr Nilson, nicknamed ‘Nipper’, played with South Sydney between 1948 and 1956, playing in 154 games for the Club including 23 first grade games.

Mr Nilson was the reserve grade captain in 1955, however he earned a call up to the first grade side for the 1955 Grand Final which saw South Sydney defeat Newtown 12 points to 11, the Club’s 16th premiership.

Mr Nilson was awarded Life Membership of the South Sydney Football Club in 1962 and went on to become President in 1976, a position he would hold until 1992.

Mr Nilson was a loving husband to his wife Daphne, a proud father and grandfather, and was also a very proud Rabbitoh.

On behalf of everyone connected with the Rabbitohs we offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr Norm Nilson at this difficult time.

Rabbitohs players will wear black arm bands on Friday night to commemorative Mr Nilson's memory.

Details of Mr Nilson’s funeral are:
