Vale Martin Crowe

The South Sydney Rabbitohs are today mourning the passing of Board Member Martin Crowe, aged 53, following a lengthy battle with lymphoma.

Mr Crowe was a Board Member of the South Sydney Football Club from 2006 to this day, entering his 11th season of involvement with the Rabbitohs in 2016.

As is well known, Mr Crowe captained New Zealand, played 77 Tests and 143 One Day Internationals for his nation, and is recognised as the greatest New Zealand batsmen of all time.

Mr Crowe was also celebrated for his work in the media, as a mentor to people from all walks of life, and for his service to world cricket.

Mr Crowe is the cousin of Rabbitohs investor Russell Crowe, and is survived by his wife Lorraine and children Emma, Hilton and Jasmine.

“Martin Crowe was a sportsman of world stature and a great representative of the nation of New Zealand,” Rabbitohs Chairman Nicholas Pappas said.

“He was also a devoted family man and a proud member of the Rabbitohs Board for the last decade.  His service to our Club will not be forgotten.”

On behalf of everyone connected to the Rabbitohs, we offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the late Martin Crowe.
