The Rabbitohs most capped player, John Sutton, received a very special surprise in the lead up to his 250th NRL game last year at Barlow Park.
John was surprised by his mother Elena, father John, partner Stacey, daughter Pippi and son Ace, who all made a secret trip to Cairns to present John with his game jersey the night before the game.
The secret visit was a complete surprise to John who had no idea his family was in town to make the presentation.
“It was a surprise to see my family last night,” Sutton said after the game.
“I didn’t think they were coming up, but it was great that ‘Madge’ could do that for me and I’m really thankful for that.”
Elena, Stacey and the kids jetted into Cairns on the Friday prior to the match, having to hide from John for almost 24 hours so as not to spoil the surprise.
John’s father, John, flew in from Bali on the Saturday to surprise his son at the jersey presentation.
All of John’s family were then in the tunnel at Barlow Park on Sunday to wish John luck as he ran onto the field, with John collecting his kids from Stacey to run out through the 250 game banner and onto the field.
Rabbitohs.com.au followed the Sutton family as they prepared for one of the biggest milestone’s in John’s career.
