Thomas Burgess is proud to rep the Lions badge

South Sydney front-rower and British Lions utility, Thomas Burgess, can't wait to put the jersey on this Saturday against Tonga-Invitational in Hamilton.

After completing his campaign with the England nines team last week, Burgess said he took a lot out of the reduced-format experience.

"It was a great experience and I'm happy I put my hand up to play for England. It was a great occasion," Burgess said.

"It's great for the world game having these tournaments in place."

Quickly making the shift over to the British Lions camp across the Tasman, Burgess has enjoyed his time reuniting with a few familiar faces, as well as putting together combinations in training.

"The intensity in the training session today was through the roof," Burgess said.

"It's a different feeling to clubland but the boys are all pumped coming together and it's great to feel that energy."

While a proud South Sydney Rabbitoh, Burgess says there's no-feeling to describe the pride that comes with representing your country.

"It's something I looked up to as a kid. It was a big goal of mine as a young rugby league player."

The last time the British Lions assembled was in 2007, so this will be Thomas' first time representing them alongside the majority of the current crop.

"The Lions tours were always something you'd look at as a youngster and wonder if you'd ever make it, and now here we are," Burgess said.
