One of the best utilities in South Sydney history, Greg Hawick rose through the ranks to play a vital role in the Club's second 'Golden Era' in the 1950s.

Originally starting as a lock, Hawick made his first-grade debut at just seventeen years of age in Round 2 of the 1950 season after playing just a single game of reserve grade.

The achievements didn't stop there though, as he became a Premiership winner in the Red and Green in his first season in the top grade, playing five-eighth in the 21-15 Grand Final victory over Western Suburbs.

Unfortunately for the youngster, he missed out on the 1951 premiership as a broken jaw rubbed him out of the contest, but his next season would prove to be one of his best.

After recovering from injury, 1952 was Hawick's breakout year, making his representative debut for NSW and Australia, playing in the inaugural World Cup and scoring a try on debut against New Zealand in the 34-15 win.

In an ultra-competitive squad with a number of talented players across the park, Hawick had to bide his time for a second Premiership, but lined up in the centres in the 1954 Grand Final against Newtown in the 23-15 triumph, scoring a try and further cementing his value to the Club.

Throughout his career, 'Megsie' proved his utility value across the park, and was named on the interchange bench in the South Sydney Dream Team in 2004.

He also was named at five-eighth in the NRL Team of the 1950s in 2007 and became a Life Member of the Club in 1991.
