Rabbitohs prop-forward, Thomas Burgess, is glad to be back on the field and building on his game as he and his teammates prepare for this week’s Round 6 clash against the Sydney Roosters at ANZ Stadium.
Having missed the first month of the season owing to a pre-season injury, Burgess returned last week to help his side to victory over Manly. Burgess today (Tuesday) gave an honest appraisal of his first up performance for the year.
“My first game back last week – I’ve got to admit I was a bit rusty I think personally,” said Burgess.
“I’m glad that I knocked a few cobwebs off there and I’m looking forward to this week and just (want to) keep building on my performances.”
Burgess returns to a competitive forward pack at the Rabbitohs that includes the likes of brothers Sam and George, as well as Kyle Turner, Paul Carter, Jason Clark, Dave Tyrrell and more – all of whom are vying for positions on a weekly basis.
But the English international puts his team and teammates first, citing that he is ready to play any role within the team as required.

“The boys have been playing so well,” said Burgess.
“I was prepared to come back in whichever way I needed to – I had limited time on the weekend but that’s what I’ll keep building up.”
Burgess is now fully focused and looking forward to the clash against the Roosters, who come into the match in search of their first win of the 2016 season.
“In a hundred odd years of history, it never matters where the clubs are on the table,” said Burgess.
“When they come into this round, both Clubs are going to be bringing their best because of the rivalry and the history.
“It’s going to be a great game as they always are – the Rabbitohs, Roosters derby.”
