On Friday the 9th of September, participants from Souths Cares’ Liverpool Opportunity Hub and Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) Programs were hosted by Zoom for an interactive and engaging industry visit at the company’s headquarters in Sydney CBD.
16 students from Ashcroft High School, Casula High School, Matraville Sports High School and SEDA College attended the excursion with their Souths Cares mentors to learn about career pathways and the importance of teamwork in the communications and technology sector.
The industry visit kicked off with a welcome lunch and meet and greet with the Zoom team, followed by a Q&A panel discussion with staff who shared their personal career journeys. A diverse range of professions was represented on the panel including Project Management, Customer Experience, Recruitment, Workplace Culture, Technicians, Engineering and Senior Management.
Emily Murison, Workplace Leader at Zoom hosted the Q&A panel session and discussed the history of how Zoom was founded and the dynamic workplace culture which the company promotes for its growing workforce. She explained the Zoom team always enjoyed the opportunity to speak with students.
“We always look forward to welcoming the Souths Cares team and students into the Zoom office.
The opportunity to share what we do, to talk to and understand what the students are facing as they work towards their own goals, is a huge honour for us. We take as much away from these experiences as the students”, Emily said.

Students were then given a behind-the-scenes tour of the Zoom headquarters before participating in a group activity that tested their problem-solving, critical thinking, and ability to work effectively in a team environment; all of which are important skills for Zoom employees.
To wrap up the industry visit, students participated in a game of trivia to test what they had learnt about Zoom and to gain feedback on their industry visit experience.
Ainsley Ryan is a participant in the Nanga Mai Marri (Dream Big) Program who has an interest in working for a communications and technology company and was impressed with the workplace environment at Zoom.
“I enjoyed the visit to Zoom HQ today it looks like a great place to work. It was interesting to see a workplace that has such a great culture and team environment, with amazing benefits for their staff”, Ainsley said.
