Souths Cares to host NAIDOC Festival

On Wednesday 6th July, Souths Cares will be hosting a NAIDOC festival to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

This year’s NAIDOC theme is Songlines: The living narrative of our nation. The theme highlights the importance of Songlines which record the travels of ancestral spirits who 'sung' the land into life.

Souths Cares Programs and Operations Manager, Alisha Parker-Elrez said NAIDOC celebrations are an important part of Souths Cares commitment to the local Indigenous community.

“NAIDOC is about giving back to community and providing an opportunity to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture. We here at Souths Cares are committed to doing this week in week out through our various programs and events dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people,” said Alisha.

Last year’s Souths Cares NAIDOC Festival was a huge success, with up to 1000 people attending on the day.

This year’s event promises to be even better with a host of activities including; traditional welcome to country ceremony, music and dance performances, shell painting workshops, art workshops, football clinics and a big community BBQ.

Time:           11.00am – 3.00pm

Date:            Wednesday, 6 July 2015
